Fired vases
Preparation of clay
Prepare the clay, making sure it is soft and free of air bubbles. This can be done by repeatedly kneading and pounding it.
Forming
Form the clay into the shape of a vase, either by hand or using a potter's wheel. Make sure the base is an even thickness.
Dry
Place the shaped vase in a cool place and wait for its surface to dry. This process usually takes several hours to a day.
Trimming
Use a knife and sandpaper to shape the vase, removing any excess clay and imperfections, and ensuring a smooth surface.
Firing
The vase is placed in the kiln for the first firing (bisque firing), which is usually at a temperature of 800-1000 degrees Celsius.
Glazing and second firing
After the glaze is applied to the surface of the vase, it is put back into the kiln for a second firing (glaze firing), usually at a temperature of around 1200 degrees Celsius.
